Lunae: The Temple of Vermentino in the Colli di Luni

24 April 2024

Nestled between the marble of the Apuan Alps and the waves of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Lunae has been interpreting Vermentino from the Colli di Luni for over 60 years, thanks to the sensitivity and dedication of the Bosoni family.

Vermentino loves the sea, the breeze, the sun, and the Mediterranean scrub, and in the area of the Colli di Luni – the easternmost corner of Liguria, between the Gulf of La Spezia and the Apuan Alps – it finds its ideal terroir with its combination of soils and microclimate. It was here that a young Paolo Bosoni, in the 1960s, decided to take over the family vineyards, starting to vinify traditional grape varieties and Vermentino, in purity. Today, Lunae's Vermentino is the Vermentino of the Colli di Luni, and the Bosoni family is the esteemed pioneer and ambassador of the territory.

The passion, dedication to the vineyards, and care for each individual wine are also reflected in the new winery inaugurated in 2023, designed to celebrate the relationship between land and man, and to pay tribute to Vermentino and the Colli di Luni. Designed with spaces for research and exploration of new winemaking projects, it is also a structurally stunning facility.

Partially underground, sustainable, and camouflaged in the landscape, it is surrounded by a vineyard garden that showcases all the grape varieties present on the estate: one for each row. Like a true temple, it slowly reveals itself, renewing the excitement at every turn: glass walls, sliding panels, bold volumes, and unexpected materials accompany the visitor in discovering how Lunae's wines are born, up to their tasting.

There are three available paths for visitors in the winery, three ways to touch and fully experience the discovery of the territory and the wine history of the Bosoni family, immersing oneself with all five senses in the environments that make up the new winery, learning about the architectural principles of the project and the Lunae production philosophy, its history, its interpretation of Vermentino, and tasting the range of wines – right where it’s born.
